Over the past two days, I was out the front of the practice clearing the flax that had slowly taken over. It was one of those jobs you keep putting off until you can’t ignore it anymore. While I was working, my kids were with me. They weren’t bothered by the heat, the dirt, or the pile of weeds. They were completely absorbed—spotting praying mantis, snails, and tiny creatures hiding between the leaves.

For hours, the simplest things kept them happy. Curious. Engaged. Content.

Watching them, I realised how far we drift from this as adults. We rush. We multitask. We get caught in the weight of errands, deadlines, and routine. We forget what it feels like to slow down long enough to notice something small and feel joy for no reason other than being there.

Kids remind us of what we once knew instinctively: life is full of tiny moments that can lift your spirit if you look for them.

Take a second today. Look around.
Find one simple thing that makes you smile—a warm drink, a breeze, a bit of sunlight, something growing in your garden.
Let it count.

Because gratitude isn’t found in the big events. It’s built in the little ones we often walk right past.
